GitHub Copilot is GitHub's official AI pair-programmer, distributed as a first-party extension across VS Code, Visual Studio, JetBrains IDEs, Neovim, Xcode, and the GitHub web UI. It does not write to disk autonomously outside of the developer's accept gesture and does not execute shell commands unless the Copilot Agent mode is explicitly enabled by the user.
